*** The 1st annual Stitch & Kick is a reality! ***

I just need to make sure that you know about the FIRST ANNUAL STITCH AND KICK at the Portland Thorns.

This is a new event being planned to bring together fiber crafters, our glorious PDX summer afternoons, handmade creations for donation to our local community in need, and professional soccer.

*** The 1st annual Stitch & Kick is a reality! ***
(snoopy dance!!)

There is a custom designed THORNS colorway created by our very own local, Lora Jean of Knitted Wit.

Donations will be collected at the stadium, at the last match of the season (always an exciting match!) and can be any scarves,……

Be an effective Ally – Equality for minorities

Some of you know me on Facebook and see me post longer missives when I am trapped in my head and need to say something. Usually, when I need to make clear something that I cannot voice easily for fear of interruption before the message is complete, or because verbalizing an idea that has so much effect and depth can be very difficult and dangerous.

These two posts are something I feel very strongly about. I would say I feel strongly enough that they need repeated attention. Read then take a day or a few and re-read. Look critically at not……

2016 goes and 2017 arrives

Why is this still on my mind? I just, sort of, kind of pulled myself out of the new year funk that leaves me wanting to curl up with pets, a scotch and a movie that will make me cry.

We are into March, and I am still thinking of transition.

First off – lets have a short review… Last year I wanted to do a few things

be on a podcast – goal met on Jan 8th! (Fun!)
go to Craftcation business conference – goal met April 9th (SO GREAT!)
do a wedding event – goal met on Oct 1st! (What a whirlwind!)
kick general ass –……

Death and rebirth – ideas

The swinging door, the year changing – the frightfully awesome thrill of a new endeavor….

2016 was full of highs and a lot of noteworthy lows. It was not all bad, and we ave come back to this change in the calendar, Time to re-set our auto pilot to sign 2017 (good luck with that).

While negativity is not needed, there is much sarcasm and and a healthily jaded perspective from many of the people that lived their youth in the 80’s. Icons and heroes have left our world and we ask “who do we aspire to now?” I would like to……

Vote with your dollar

Every time you spend money, you are providing an exchange of value worth the time it took for you to earn that money. You are telling the maker/grower/manufacturer that their products and their business actions and in many cases, their politics and religious beliefs  align with your own belief/views. You are providing them means to be a voice on your behalf. You are supporting their networks and goals. In many cases, that is OK! There are a large number of businesses and people doing business that use their skills/network/money for the greater good.

however…  there are a bunch that are not.

Fast……

Buy Local/Buy from a Maker

So a while back this lovely post started bouncing around facebook. Saw a handful of friends post this. I would love to see more. I would love to see all our networks grow!

Wanna find out who you know that is a maker, that you may not know about? Post this on your page and see what cool stuff pops up for ideas on holiday shopping that will have an IMMEDIATE impact on our local economy and a maker/artist/farmers life while taking positive steps to minimize the transport/big oil consumption and fast fashion/trend consumption and waste that comes with buying at……

Knit Bomb-diggity

I have been posting alot about knit bombing lately.
There are a lot of reasons
1) Free art in the world

we need art
we need to make art
art inspires thought and dialogue

2) unique expression

my art is not going to be like yours
everyone has a different perspective of beauty to share
expanding perspectives by viewing others art is interactive
art can communicate emotions/experiences and spread joy

3) Unlimited opportunity – in particular with the fourth of July coming

Everywhere is an opportunity to make art
US infrastructure provides LOTS of places to install art
4 day weekend – we (yarn bombers everywhere) have TIME to get a bunch of pieces up
making……

Plea to the “allies” in our communities.

To all of the allies out there.

That are loud and “proud” for us queers on social media.
That are shouting love and support from internet rooftops.
I need you to do me a solid.

Along with shouting love and support (I never want to take that for granted) I need you to do something harder. Something that will cause discomfort.
Something that requires intention and directness.
Something that may put you at an emotional risk.
Something that I need you to be strong for.

I need you to engage those around you, in your daily life, and educate, debate, help people that……

Craftcation 2016

This early April I got the chance to do something amazing.

a conference.

ok – for many of you that is FAR from amazing. Still, this is my 1st conference that I attended to improve my skills, knowledge, network and focus of kNiTpUnK…

wow. it was a doozy.

Not only did I get a motivational kick in the arse, I was able to meet with so many intelligent, charismatic, savvy and talented people (mostly women, but not all!) in a really condensed period of time.

I have plans to improve my website, my etsy, my social media strategy, my unboxing experience…. AND NEW PRODUCT IDEAS!

so…….

Fears, Assumptions…

Fears drive many of our assumptions about ….. things.

Be it fears of exotic other people, or lifestyles you don’t comprehend, those foods that seem odd or weird, a regions risks and weather, the social standing of whole groups, even religions and their followers, or small challenges to your daily habits.

If you have fear of something, and you don’t address it, it becomes a monster. This isn’t a “it might” kind of observation. IT WILL. The longer you let that fear simmer, the more intimidating it gets. The hydra grows more heads. The werewolf gains sharper teeth and longer claws. The……
