2016 goes and 2017 arrives

Why is this still on my mind? I just, sort of, kind of pulled myself out of the new year funk that leaves me wanting to curl up with pets, a scotch and a movie that will make me cry.

We are into March, and I am still thinking of transition.

First off – lets have a short review… Last year I wanted to do a few things

be on a podcast – goal met on Jan 8th! (Fun!)
go to Craftcation business conference – goal met April 9th (SO GREAT!)
do a wedding event – goal met on Oct 1st! (What a whirlwind!)
kick general ass –……

Color and Memory

Color is such a notable part of our lives, and we often take for granted how much it triggers our memories. Like smells or music, your brain-pan will file small bits away and as whole days fade away, snippets of moments are captured, in your subconscious, till that color/tone/lighting reminds you of something from your childhood, or your teens, or that time you married….years pass, but there is, like it was just moments ago, in your minds eye.

Along with my own opinions on this based off my own experiences, as someone that is hugely effected by color, there is some science……

Craftcation 2016

This early April I got the chance to do something amazing.

a conference.

ok – for many of you that is FAR from amazing. Still, this is my 1st conference that I attended to improve my skills, knowledge, network and focus of kNiTpUnK…

wow. it was a doozy.

Not only did I get a motivational kick in the arse, I was able to meet with so many intelligent, charismatic, savvy and talented people (mostly women, but not all!) in a really condensed period of time.

I have plans to improve my website, my etsy, my social media strategy, my unboxing experience…. AND NEW PRODUCT IDEAS!

Busy? or Calm? or BOTH?

Busy is good! No stagnation. Object in motion stays in motion, etc. etc etc.

Calm is good! Peacefulness, mindfulness, rest and self care, etc. etc. etc.

Being able to balance the two is GREAT! (I sure don’t think I have gotten even close to mastering that yet… )

I am happily active in a few big things that end up taking up a majority of my time.

One is my day job. I am working for a local, family owned business that is full of sports fans and is focused on quality of work, not personal appearance. This allows me the freedom to be myself……

Pay, Cost, Value, Worth…

So…. I am ruminating on how prices are created.

Particularly, how we as creatives value ourselves when we compare to the market.

We see materials, things, stuff at markets, malls, shops, stores all over the country, day and night, that are pushed in front of your faces ON SALE, LIMITED QUANTITY, BUY NOW, or conveniently placed under you nose at the check out. These items are made to last a month maybe two. They are hastily produced, with cheap materials. but they are here, there, everywhere to supply your every need – even needs you did not know you had.

How do we……

Whatchoo lookin at?

Oh Hai!

I am still here – knitting like a mad fiend in the almost 100 degree heat with no AC. This must be a labor of love, because that right there is freaking certifiable.

This has been a super eventful few weeks.  A great day marching with wife and mother in PDX Pride. So much great soccer (and some crap soccer, but hey) to watch in town and on the teevee. Multiple family members visiting from out of town. Wifey’s birthday weekend! Finished a commission mobius cowl I get to hand deliver on Saturday. Passed the 2/3rds complete mark on my……

A few little updates for any interested parties. (like ALL OF YOU!)

You may be wondering where you can find my stuff. Currently on Etsy (I kno, I know… that’s original… leSigh. it is a tool at my immediate disposal.) and building up stock for a local Boutique; Sarah J Jewelry in Multnomah Village. Go check out her store! Seriously! It is raw and refined. Bare creations from local artists and elegantly finished vision.

I am also working on a few collaborative efforts with other local entrepreneurs, but I don’t think the cat should be……
